» » Al-Feel - Protection Kabbah from Abraha's Elephant Army

Did He not cause their war to end in confusion,
The Year of the Elephant
Abraha's
Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, was born in the year when Abrahah al-Habashiyy attacked the Ka^bah. Allah destroyed Abrahah and his army before they entered Makkah.

Abrahah had built a church called Qullays in Yemen. However, when he found that the Arabs hearts were still attached to the Ka^bah, he set out his army to destroy it. He brought with him his army to destroy it. He brought with him a big elephant. When his army came close to Makkah, Abrahah ordered his troops to attack the cattle. They took some of ^Adbul-Muttalibs camels. Abrahah sent on of his soldiers to Makkah to meet with ^Abdul-Muttalib, son of Hashim. The soldier said: The king sent me to tell you that he did not come here to fight you unless you fight him first, rather he came to destroy this house (meaning the Ka^bah). Then he will leave you. ^Abdul-Muttalib said: We dont have the ability to fight him. We will let him do what he came here to do.

The messenger took ^Abdul-Muttalib to Abrahah. When ^Abdul-Muttalib entered the kings chambers, the king praised him and honored him. Then he told the translator: Ask him about his need from the king. The translator asked and ^Abdul-Muttalib replied: I want you to replace the two-hundred (200) camels taken from me during the attack.

Abrahah replied: Tell him: When I first saw you I was impressed, but now I do not think highly of you. I came to destroy something you consider Holy in your religion; yet you do not discuss it with me, rather you talk about the camels that were taken?

^Abdul-Muttalib replied: I am the lord (owner) of the camels; as for this House, the Ka^bah, it has a Lord (God) Who will protect it. Abrahah returned the camels to ^Abdul-Muttalib. Fearing that the army would harm people on its way to Makkah, ^Abdul-Muttalib instructed the people of Quraysh to disperse in the mountains. They obeyed him.

Abrahah directed his army with the big elephant at its head towards Makkah. However, the elephant refused to move despite the orders and beatings given to it. To everyones surprise, when it was directed towards Yemen and ash-Sham areas, it ran quickly and without delay.

Then, Allah sent many small groups of birds from the direction of the ocean. Each bird carried three (3) stones, two (2) in its feet and one in its beak. Each stone was bigger than a lentil but smaller than a chickpea. The name of one of Abrahahs soldiers was written on each stone. The stone would fall on the soldier, enter through his head and leave from his bottom. Thus, Abrahahs army was destroyed and did not enter into the Holy mosque of Makkah. It was said that there were 60000 soldiers. None of them returned except for a small group with their commander.

Abrahah became very sick. His body fell apart bit by bit. He died when his heart fell out of his chest.
